Dear Del and family,
I so sad to hear of your loss and sorry I will not be able to attend the service. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Much love,
Amy Sander (Jersey City)
I've been thinking a lot about Barbara ever since I heard the news. I wish there was some way I could have attended her service.
Something positive that keeps coming to mind though, is that Barbara was happy. I met her when she was 29, and she was concerned about finding the right guy to settle down with. Having found Del and moved into a nice new house, she seemed pretty excited about her life. It's a consolation to me to know that she had found what she was looking for.
Those who were closest to her now have the hardest job, of dealing with their loss. Barbara always seemed to somehow maintain a sense of cheer in getting through difficult situations. The rest of us could probably learn a lot from her example.
My greatest sympathy to Barbara's family,
Mike Jara (Tucson, AZ)
To all of you who love Barbara,
I am so terribly sorry. I have no words to express this well but I am going to try to share some of my memories of Barbara with you. These thoughts are for all of her family who love her and raised her to be the very special and accomplished young woman she was, for Del and Sage who love her and spent each day with her, and for her closest relatives and friends that love her and will miss her dearly as well. When I met Barbara it was immediately apparent that she was a warm and friendly young woman. She had sincerity and a spark about her that became ever brighter as you got to know her. Barbara achieved so much in her short time in Maryland. She inspired me with her energy and enthusiasm to jump in and present at a statewide technology conference. She was always upbeat and helpful at school. She not only earned the respect and affection of many of her co-workers throughout the entire school, she made some very close friends as well. Barbara could be counted on to greet you with a big smile and she had what is referred to as “great Chi”, meaning she exuded positive, healing energy.
Barbara shared her expertise freely and enthusiastically and it was always a pleasure to have a conversation with her. In fact, my last memory of her is from one of the last days of school in June. Sue Minkin had just shown me a video that Barbara created with some of her students for submission to a professional organization. It was wonderful, and one more example of how she was always reaching out to give the children extraordinary experiences that would inspire them to a love of lifelong learning. Barbara walked into the middle school computer lab just minutes later and I had the chance to tell her how much I enjoyed the video. She flashed that great smile and we wished one another a fun and relaxing summer.
When a life is cut short, especially a life lived as enthusiastically and warmly as Barbara lived hers it touches others in a powerful way. Barbara will continue to be an inspiration to me in the years to come. I have chosen the rainbow as a symbol to represent her and for the rest of my life, I will think of her and reflect on how she lived her life each time I see one.
My heart and prayers are with you all, Penny Larson.
